Guilty + Alameda

Speaking of Matthew Ryan... I'm suddenly nostalgic.

I remember the hey days of the Del Rio.  I lived was living in the farmhouse in Chelsea at the time.  My typical day went like this:  Go to work, take a long lunch to go play basketball, leave work, stop at the Del Rio on the way home, go home and go to sleep.

For those late drives home, there were 2 songs that I liked to put in my CD player and play at MAXIMUM VOLUME.  These are them.  "Guilty" is the lead-off cut from Matthew Ryan's album "May Day"... I'd blow through that, then "Watch Your Step"... stop off at "Railroaded"... witness the death of rock and roll with "Comfort"... and get all sad with "Certainly Never".

I get to see Matthew play here on 2/25 @ Berbati's.

There's really no video for "Alameda."  I hate posting these homemade photo-videos that fans put together but... I wanted you to get the drums to hear what I heard.  This was the first song on an Elliot Smith comp that a friend of mine had made for me.

Unfortunately, I never got to see Elliot Smith play, and I never will, for reasons that are obvious to anyone who pays attention to music that lives outside of the status quo.  It saddens me to meet people in this city who don't even have a clue as to who he is.
