it is late in the day, and i have to get you back to town.
we walk and walk
through all of the familiar neighborhoods
until we finally come to the train tracks
on the edge of town.
at the station,
there are crowds and crowds
of mindless, jabbering walkabouts
getting in the way of everything.
looking for a shortcut
i get on a passenger car
to cut around the lines.
so you follow.
then the doors close
and the car starts moving
in the direction opposite
of where we want to go
so we take a seat,
recline it forward,
and lay around lazily,
gazing and calm.
it feels like the first of many
